Monitoring - Over the weekend we deployed an update to the way we queue indexing updates in Monitor. Updates that are triggered by candidate events (log in, start test, online heartbeat, etc.) are now handled in a separate queue from other less time-sensitive indexing jobs.

Today we have seen even higher volumes of traffic than on Friday (which was a record day in terms of the number of deliveries in a single day), and we have not seen any issues with slow updates in Monitor.

We will continue to work on improving the performance of all indexing jobs, to ensure an issue like this doesn’t happen again.

Investigating - We have gotten reports about some candidates being wrongly indicated as offline in Monitor. Initial investigation indicates that one of our servers is slower than usual in updating candidates in Monitor. Those pauses in updates to some candidates are detected as candidates being offline.

As long as the candidates are not seeing any error messages on their screen you can rest assured that the candidate is online, and their delivery is being saved.

Resolved - After further investigation it turned out that the issue was related to language support for lists (ordered and unordered). And that by either previewing a question, or attempting to store it while the question did not pass validation, text could get lost during processing of the different language versions. This has now been fixed.

Note that the reason the preview functionality was affected, is due to the fact that preview triggers a save of any unsaved changes.

Investigating - We have discovered a bug in the authoring tool, that can lead to some of the text in a question to be deleted. We are currently investigating the exact cause of the issue. Initial investigation points to clicking the preview button in the question editor, while having a language that is not the primary language of the question active in the editor. We will update this with more details as we investigate further.

Note that the content seen in preview of a question or test, is identical to what the student will see. And that content is not modified without an explicit user action.

Investigating - We have discovered that in some rare instances it’s possible for an outdated SEB config file to be left in cache. In these cases the SEB pin-code, exit code and list of allowed applications could be outdated, and not match the latest changes made on the test. This only applies to tests that have been activated for some time, then deactivated again, had one of the aforementioned values changed, and finally re-activated again. We are working on a fix, and taking steps to limit the chances of this happening until the fix is ready. If you still experience this issue, get in touch with us.
